Contests 2007: Overview

Objective

Osmosis is about celebrating technology through collaboration and competition. There are several contests conducted as part of Osmosis every year that bring out the very best of MindTree Minds. These contests are designed in such a way that they not only challenge the Minds individually, but also encourage collaboration. This year too a series of contests are planned. Here is a brief introduction to all of these.

TechWorks Contest

TechWorks is a contest that allows MindTree Minds to create software that they want -- outside of their day-to-day project work, in collaboration with fellow MindTree Minds. The TechWorks could be around areas & technologies that MindTree Minds are passionate about. There is no restriction on the kind of technology that can be used in a TechWork. Most of the TechWorks are usually utilities, PoC, tools, libraries and frameworks. Some of the TechWorks have evolved & matured to become full fledged projects and licensed to clients.

Technical Paper Contest

The Technical Paper Contest allows MindTree Minds to articulate their thoughts in the form of white papers, Points of View, technology comparisons etc. MindTree Minds have shown huge enthusiasm for the paper contest with many original & thought provoking papers being submitted.

This year, apart from the technical papers, we have introduced a 'techno-business' category. This reflects the "business- enabling mission" of MindTree and also provides an opportunity for MindTree Minds to bring out the best insights on the many topics they are passionate about.

Design Patterns Contest

This contest provides a platform, an opportunity for MindTree Minds to go back and reflect on the basics, the fundamental building blocks of software -- the design patterns.

Did You Know: 3 of the patterns from Osmosis 2006 were selected for the PLoP conferences. This is a HUGE achievement.

CodeWar

This is a new contest being introduced in Osmosis 2007.

CodeWar is a contest around 'speed coding'. CodeWar will see self formed teams of MindTree Minds competing with each other to solve the same/similar problem in a given timeframe, using the technology of their choice. MindTree Minds can form teams on their own and participate in this contest. This will be a pure virtual event where MindTree Minds all over the world can participate.

Community Quizzes

As part of Osmosis there are weekly community quizzes, with grand prizes for winners.

Each week, a different Community is identified to create a quiz of 7 multiple choice questions. Quiz questions are uploaded and enabled on Osmosis website every Wednesday 2 PM (IST)and an email is sent to MindTree World, giving 24 Hrs to respond(i.e. till Thursday 2 PM(IST)). This is a very popular contest where MindTree Minds across the globe participate with great enthusiasm.

Student Paper Contest

Osmosis is not limited to MindTree Minds only. As part of Osmosis, we reach out to more than 50 engineering colleges for technical paper writing contests.
