Leading air transport technology solutions provider upgrades Oracle EBS and OBIEE to reduce maintenance costs and downtime
To enable continued support through the product lifecycle, the client was looking for an extended support package for EBS and OBIEE that would provide a new set of business features in a cost effective manner. Mindtree helped the client migrate to the Oracle 11g R2 database, reduce application downtime, and lower maintenance costs by reducing customizations and using standard features in the new version.

he client is a leading air transport technology solutions provider with locations spanning more than 200 countries.
The client had one of the largest and most intricate Oracle EBS installations, encompassing over 200 ledgers and 374 entities, and supporting more than 6000 users. The client was looking for a robust solution that could provide product lifetime support for EBS and OBIEE, and enable a limited set of new features to the business in a cost effective manner. To achieve this, the client was looking to reduce customizations wherever possible and use standard features in the newer version.
After a careful evaluation of the challenges confronting the client, Mindtree defined a timely and budget-friendly plan spanning 12 months. As part of the upgradation process, the Mindtree team performed objects impact analysis. More than 150 objects (many of them were OAF objects) - that were impacted due to upgrade - underwent a retrofitting exercise. We also helped the client evaluate retirement of customizations and existing hardware, enable complete capacity planning for R12.2.4, and assess the impact and compatibility of third party systems with R12.2.4. Server migration was performed a month prior to application upgrade to de-risk the application upgrade process.
Our robust solution helped the client migrate to Oracle database 11g R2 and upgrade OBIEE to compatible version (18.104.22.168.0). Our team delivered three iterations of upgrades and one dry run before executing actual cutover in test environments, resulting in an accurate estimate of production cutover downtime and eliminating defects downstream.
Mindtree’s systematic approach helped the client reduce the application maintenance cost and downtime by eliminating customizations and deploying patches. The solution enabled premier support from Oracle for EBS 12.2 until 2018 and extended support until mid-2021. Features such as ‘mobile app designer’ and ‘smart view’ in the upgraded OBIEE version helped deliver an enhanced user experience. Our team also executed nearly 500 regression test scripts during each iteration of the upgrade, ensuring minimal defects.
