In the first article (link) of our three-part blog series on continuous testing, we covered its pivotal function in the continuous software delivery method, and the protection it affords companies against digital disruption. Without effective continuous testing, an organization risks wasting all of the efforts its spent on software design, development and deployment.

As explained in Mindtree’s recent webinar, “Continuous Testing in an Age of Digital Disruption,” continuous testing becomes increasingly significant in our current business climate, which emphasizes time to market in an era of digital transformation. Its role is particularly important as organizations employ Agile and DevOps methodologies and issue new releases and updates with far greater frequency, escalating users’ expectations. Updates that once took weeks now take hours—and sometimes just minutes. This perpetual cycle of shortened development and delivery times makes quality assurance more challenging than ever before.

Continuous Testing is the Answer to Today’s Challenges

While it may be tempting at times, sacrificing quality for faster delivery is never an option. Not in the digital age, where poor quality can directly affect key company processes and bring business to an immediate halt. So, what’s an organization to do? The answer: implement continuous testing.

Continuous testing enables quality at speed and is an integral part of the delivery pipeline. It involves an automated testing approach that is orchestrated by continuous integration and testing tools. Among its many capabilities: immediate bug fixes, verifying code on the go, and all test activities running in an ongoing, integrated fashion with development and delivery activities.

In “Continuous Testing in an Age of Digital Disruption,” software experts from Forrester Research, Home Depot and Mindtree discuss the many benefits of continuous testing. They explore how it ensures high-quality releases and updates even as the pace of software development accelerates into high gear and delivery speeds consistently hit new targets.

Matt Mackenny, director of software quality at Home Depot, explains that building the right platform behind test automation processes doesn’t occur overnight. However, he believes the eventual results can help companies tighten delivery times, reduce costs, and—just as critical—increase quality. To do so most effectively requires collaboration between development, QA and testing teams. MacKenny highlights the importance of teamwork in the software development life cycle in this webinar—and how it applies to creating positive change that enables what all agile teams seek to produce: quality at speed.
