WHD.india was held on May 21 & 22, 2012 at the Renaissance Hotel, Mumbai. It was the first industry event where we exhibited VMUnify and here are my reflections on the same.

WHD or World Hosting Days is an event specifically for ‘hosting’ providers. The original and the longest running edition of WHD is being held at Germany since 2004. For the past few years, WHD is expanding its presence beyond Germany and their entry into India is part of this move. It is said that if you are either a solution provider for the hosting industry or a hoster, you have to be part of two events, HostingCon for the Americas market and WHD for the rest of the world. Our decision to participate was based on this thought process.

There were close to 400 attendees at the conference. Out of them, we had at least 100 visitors at our booth; all of them heard our pitch and viewed our demos. A lot of the hosting providers signed up for a beta as well. Some of the highlights from our interactions with the prospects at this event were:

  1. A general sense of surprise to see a vendor from India who has a solution in the cloud and Virtualization Management space. This space is generally seen as the place where only vendors from the US and Europe can address.
  2. Enquiries for Beta from multiple hosting companies.
  3. Introductory meetings with solution providers for a joint go – to – market plan by integrating VMUnify with their solutions.
  4. A well-attended session by Jani, President and CTO of MindTree on the topic “Identity in the Cloud”.

In short, WHD.india gave us a good platform to reach out to all our prospects in India at one platform, and I would say that our first outing as a sponsor (for VMUinfy) at a conference was as a success.
