A client recently came to us hoping to run customer analytics on overall web usage. While developing the proof of concept, however, we discovered that the client had no historical web log data. The vendor who supplied the data had not informed the client that the information would need to be requested ahead of time and would cost USD 60,000 for 12 months of historical data from one channel. As part of the analytics discovery phase, we found a lot of gaps and quality issues in the data they did have.

The mapping between different data sets is also a challenge. Another client of ours had attempted to map two data sets without any success, which limited opportunities for its sales and marketing teams.
